United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)

The Youth group at Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church is known as United Methodist Youth Fellowship or UMYF for short. We meet every Sunday night from 6:00-8:00pm where we enjoy the fellowship of a meal followed by a program that helps nurture our faith. Sixth through twelfth graders are welcome to join us, and the best way to get involved is simply to show up!

Service & Fellowship

UMYF is both about serving the community as well as growing in fellowship with other youth. We stay busy with service projects (Give Kids the World, Salkehatchie, WARM, Food for the Soul, sponsorship of a Haitian child and others).  We enjoy trips together (bi-annual ski trip, Revolution and more) and we have lots of fun (5th Quarter, Lock-Ins, Christmas Caroling, Youth DAYZ, Live Nativity Scene and other great times).  Our youth are each assigned a Prayer Partner who prays for them during the school year.  We have a celebration dinner in May which celebrates the revelation of their adult Prayer Partner.

Confirmation Class

Confirmation for our youth takes place during their 8th grade year.  The 8th grade class spends time  learning about the Bible, Jesus, Sacraments, John Wesley, The United Methodist Church and more.  Confirmation Sunday takes place in May or June at which time the class is confirmed and welcomed as a member of Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church.

Get Involved

We encourage our youth to be active in all aspects of our youth ministry. Through learning, serving and enjoying Christian fellowship with one another, our youth have a strong spiritual foundation on which to grow. Our UMYF year culminates with Youth Sunday in May of each year at which our youth lead our congregation in worship at both services that given Sunday. Our high school seniors are encouraged to apply for the Mason Parker Scholarship and deserving youth who have actively participated are awarded scholarship money to be used towards their college education.

Eleven adults currently volunteer with our youth: Mary & Rich Abbott, Betty Best, Bryan & Emily Catoe, Ray & Jessica McCallister, Brian & Torill Nelson, Debra Patterson and Susan White. These dedicated adults are a vital part of youth ministry at LSUMC. If you would like to get involved with our wonderful  UMYF program, please let us know.
