Missions

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me! – Isaiah 6:8 NRSV

Lyttleton Street UMC MissionsMinistry is a crucial area where we are to reach out and touch our neighbors with the love of Christ. This love is expressed in many ways, and Lyttleton Street United Methodist Church desires to not just fulfill a short term need, to but to genuinely touch the entire life – physical, emotional, spiritual and social –  of each and every person desperately crying out for the love of Christ. Any act in missions is not about the self, but it’s about God and the other person. Our church is proud to both sponsor (in many cases) various missions, but we also participate in others.

blooddriveWith that in mind, Lyttleton Street UMC is active in both local and international missions. At the local level, we gladly serve, by donation and participation, at Food for the Soul, as well as helping with the Sacks of Love program. We actively are involved in two major seasonal projects that focus on home repair. Salkehatchie is a summer event where Lyttleton Street UMC sponsors a local camp, called Camp Wateree, to address needy homes in the area. The Weatherization and Repair Ministry (WARM) takes place each winter, and local homes are repaired and weatherized so that their occupants can have a place to stay. WARM is a home-grown Lyttleton Street UMC ministry. Our church is also actively involved in sponsoring Habitat for Humanity.

gktw6We also help sponsor Christian Community Ministries (CCM) which is a crisis ministry for those with pressing needs. Lyttleton Street UMC members have been found at regional crises such as the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission (UMVIM) trip to Biloxi, Mississippi after Hurricane Katrina, and will continue to be found help those in need after disaster. We are also involved at the international level with UMVIM, including trips Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
